"Sex Sells"

I have heard that phrase so many times, but sometimes I think it is crazy WHAT sex sells these days. Just take a look at this commercial.

A salad?! Really?!

Oh, and here's another for you.

Tennis shoes. Awesome.

I shouldn't have even put these videos on my blog for fear of promoting this type of advertising further. I get mad when I see all these sleazy commercials on TV. I really would prefer my husband and son (or anyone for that matter) not have to see porn (no matter how "soft") every time they turn on the TV. More and more I can see the beauty of not having cable. Why not just have Netflix and watch only what you want with no nasty commercial interruptions. I think we will go that way.

Weekend Getaway

The National Guard does a marriage seminar weekend for military and their spouses. Berkeley and I signed up for it and we are so glad that we did! They put us in a suite at the Little America Hotel in SLC for two nights, fed us breakfast and lunch both days, and we got to attend a marriage course all for FREE! Don't you think that the enjoyment level is much higher when you know that the event is at no expense to your bank account?! Well, our suite was on the 14th floor...next door to room 1408...creepy, but it was an amazing room with a great view. The food was awesome and the seminar was really worth while. We got to spend our evenings swimming/hot tubbing/watching movies ("Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" was one of them and it was great), and sleeping without interruption from our baby. We got to sleep in! That was absolute heaven! Since we did not have to pay for anything else, we did order room service dinner one night and it was delicious. I got a platter with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, a roll, and cranberry sauce. Berkeley got a cheeseburger a fries...gourmet style! Delicious. Here is the best part about the whole weekend: We were waiting for an elevator when out of the corner of my eye, I see a really tall, broad man in a suit walking towards the same elevator we were at. It didn't take long to realize it was President Monson!! He was there with another gentleman in a suit (I'm assuming a member of the 70). We shook their hands and introduced ourselves and President Monson made jokes about the elevator being "broken" because it was taking so long. It was really an awesome experience to meet the prophet of God in such an intimate setting. It really was a wonderful getaway for the two of us. We owe our parents big time for babysitting Asa while we had our fun. We really appreciated it. I meant to take a ton of pictures, but I only got so far as to get some pictures of our great room.

Like Father, Like Son??

From the minute Asa was born, we have heard nothing but how much he looks like me. " Oh, he looks JUST like his mom!" or "Berkeley, are you sure he's yours?" and on and on and on. Well, Berkeley's mom managed to find a few baby pictures of Berkeley for me. Take a look and see what you think? All me or can you spot some Berkeley in our little guy too?

Either way, they are both super cute!

Is a Nice Smile Too Much to Ask For??

Then again, is a tan too much to ask for? Hello pasty whiteness.

9 Month Stats

Asa went to his 9 month well baby visit yesterday. He weighs 17 lbs 2 oz (5th percentile) and he is 26 inches long (10th percentile). He has a big noggin to hold his huge brain. His head circumference is 44.6 cm (25th-50th percentile). He is healthy and doing well. The entire time the doctor was with us, Asa was making super loud noises so the doctor kept having to talk louder and louder. The minute he left, Asa became a mute. Funny how that works out. We sure love him. Oh ans this morning we walked into his bedroom to find him standing up in his crib. That was the first time he has done that. He is also cutting his 2nd tooth and I will be so happy to be done with teething for a little while. It has been hard on Asa (and his mom). He is full fledged crawling all over the place and putting everything in his mouth. Time to start vacuuming once a day. He babbles like crazy and has this funny fake laugh that he does all the time. He is learning to wave bye-bye and hello and he drums his own lips while blowing air to make funny sounds. I will have to catch that on video sometime. He has become super interested in all food. Anytime we are eating, he will do whatever he can to get some into his own mouth. Thanksgiving should be a riot! He is a handful but so worth the work.

Video Overload!

This is my little brother David and his friend Beth. They wrote this song together and performed it for a choir project. I thought it turned out to be a really good song.

My son has learned to crawl! He still does some army crawling and rolling, but he has figured out the alternating left/right motion and gets anywhere he wants now.

Asa got his first haircut yesterday. He no longer looks like a balding old man because his hair is all the same length now. Ignore my comments. It was a slightly emotional event for me!

This last video is just a cute one of Berkeley and Asa playing together.

What Would You Be?

Reincarnation: the belief that the soul, upon death of the body, comes back to earth in another body or form.

This post was inspired by two things.

First, I watched a show on the History channel about the idea of reincarnation. Interesting.

Second, I listened to report on bears given by my niece.

I think if I were to be reincarnated, I would choose to come back as a bear. Yep, a bear, and here are the reasons why.

When you’re a bear, you get to hibernate. You do nothing but sleep for six months. I could deal with that.

Before you hibernate, you’re supposed to eat yourself stupid. I could deal with that too.

When you’re a girl bear, you birth your children (who are the size of walnuts) while you’re sleeping and wake to partially grown, cute, cuddly cubs. I could definitely deal with that.

If you’re mama bear, everyone knows you mean business. You swat anyone who bothers your cubs. If your cubs get out of line, you swat them too. I could deal with that.

If you’re a bear, your mate EXPECTS you to wake up growling. He EXPECTS that you will have hairy legs and excess body fat.

Yeah, I think I will be a bear. What would you be?

A Tooth!

FINALLY! Asa has been trying to cut his two lower teeth for weeks and one cut through on Tuesday November 10th. (You don't care about the date, but I do!) He still has the second one just below the surface so we might have a bit more irritable teething time ahead of us, but that's okay! I will try to snag a picture of the tooth, but it is tricky as he does not like anyone touching his mouth right now. In other news, our little family has been sick, sick, sick!! I have had what I thought was a crappy cold/cough for a month now. I went back to the doctor, got some chest x-rays and found out I have bronchitis. It could last another couple weeks and I have to use an inhaler 4 times a day. Berkeley came down with a stomach bug a couple days ago and hugged the porcelain for a night...poor guy. It took a couple days but he is almost all better now. Yesterday, Asa ran a fever from the time he woke up until bed and through a good part of the night. He also has had a cold/cough, so his pediatrician prescribed him Tamiflu. We gave it to him last night and this morning. He seems to be doing much better this morning with no fever so far. Hopefully all of us are coming out of the woods as far as sickness goes. Better now than during the Holidays, I guess.

I Sure Love Those Kids!

Last week I went to Spanish Fork for some of the day. Asa and I went to visit my sister Karen, the triplets and her new baby Owen. Aspen, Connor, and Brooke love little Asa and he loves them back. I caught these couple pictures and love them. I think kids are the best to watch play and interact with eachother. You can just see their imaginations at work due to the unplanned costuming. They are great kids.

Also, when I was in Spanish Fork, I went and had a playdate with my friends Brooke and Holley and their cute boys. It was a lot of fun. I only managed to get a couple pictures taken this time. Asa got warm so off came his shirt!

Once Again, There is Nothing Better Than Food.

Veggie Puffs make Asa delirious with joy. He just lets them hang out in his mouth forever before deciding to chew and swallow. He agrees that food ought to be savored.

There is Nothing Better Than Food!

Halloween!

Ema, Lorelei, Coleman as a cat, dog, and frog.
My little brother David as a nerd.
Cade and Asa as a tiger and bear.
My sister Kim, her husband Matt, and their little boy Cade as a bear, lion and tiger.
Berkeley as a "super attractive" woman. (with a guitar case coming out of his bum...)
My nephew Bryson as a skunk.
I thought I would give David's nerd glasses a try.

How's Your Day Going?

Did you have trouble getting out of bed?

Do you have a stiff neck?

Did you wash your hair and couldn't do anything with it?

Does your new diet not seem to be working out?

Did you pull a muscle while exercising?

Did the hat you bought look better on you at the store?

Did you get caught in the rain?

Did the food you had for lunch not agree with you?

If any of these things have happened to you today, then I hope your day gets better! If not, then just remember IT IS FRIDAY! And it is HALLOWEEN WEEKEND!
